Video Tutorial here: Daisy Granny Square Tutorial for Beginners
Hello Good People! Thank you for stopping by! Below is the free written pattern for the Daisy Granny Square tutorial. I created a video tutorial for this pattern which is linked above. Below is also a list of the supplies I used, as well as the abbreviations for the stitches in this pattern.
Supplies: 5.0mm hook, small embroidery scissors, needle, “I Love This Yarn” – Ivory, Coral Sparkle, Sungold (available at your local Hobby Lobby). You will need 3 colors of your choice.
Stitches used (US): single crochet (sc), double crochet (dc), half double crochet (hdc), triple crochet (tc), cluster stitch (CL), slip stitch (ss)
Note: This pattern starts off creating a magic circle. In the video I share step by step instructions on how to do this. I also share step by step instructions on how to do the cluster stitch using the triple crochet. Have in mind what color yarn you will need for the middle, petals, and border of your square. I started with the sungold color by “I Love This Yarn”, and used the ivory for the petals, and the coral sparkle for the border. This pattern will make approximately 5 1/2 inch square.
Round 1: Magic circle, sc8, ss into first sc.
Round 2: ch3 (counts as a dc), then dc into the same stitch as ch3. Next, do 2dc in each of the remaining sc stitches. ss into 1st dc stitch. Tie off. (16 dc)
Round 3: In this round you will use add a new color yarn and create the cluster stitch using the tc in each 16 stitches.
For the 1st cluster: Ch4. Yarn over (yo) twice, pull up a loop, yo pull through 1st two loops, yo again pull through 2nd two loops on your hook. In the same stitch yo twice, pull up a loop, yo pull through 2 loops. Yo pull through 4 loops. Ch 3.
Remaining 15 clusters: *Yo twice, pull up a loop. Yo, pull through 1st two loops. Yo again and pull through the next two loops. *repeat this step in the same stitch. Next, yo twice for the 3rd time in same stitch, pull up a loop (should have 6 loops on hook). Yo pull through first two loops, yo again and pull through all 5 remaining loops on your hook. Ch 3.
You should have a total of 16 petals once this round is complete. SS into the first stitch of the first petal. Tie off.
Round 4: In this round you will be working in the ch3 spaces. Add the new color yarn in any ch3 space of the daisy. Ch 4 (counts as a tc). Next do 2 tc, ch2, 3 tc all in the same chain space. This will create the corner.
*Go to the next ch3 space and do 3dc, 3 hdc, then another 3dc (This step is to create the sides of the square). Next crochet 3tc, 2ch, 3 tc all in the same chain space to form another corner. *repeat these steps until you have made it to the starting corner.
Once you’ve arrived back to the starting corner, do 3tc, ch2. Ss into starting chain. Do NOT tie off.
Round 5: Ch3, dc into same stitch as starting chain. Dc in each stitch until you get to the chain 2 space. *In the chain 2 space do 2dc, ch2, 2dc for the corners. Next dc in each stitch afterwards. (You should have 19 dc for the sides). *repeat these steps until you have made it to the starting ch3. Ss into the 3rd ch of the starting chain. Tie off and weave in your ends.
And that is it! You have your beautiful, easily made daisy granny square. If you have any questions please feel free to drop a comment below or go to the tutorial for visual instruction. Daisy Granny Square Tutorial for Beginners
